World Book Day – 05.03.2026
We are very excited to celebrate World Book Day 2026, a much‑loved national event that brings children and adults together to enjoy the magic of books, stories, and imagination! It is a wonderful opportunity to inspire a lifelong love of reading and remind children that books can take them anywhere — from enchanted forests to outer space.
As part of our celebrations, we invite all children to come to school dressed as their favourite storybook character. Teachers will provide opportunities for pupils to share the inspiration behind their costumes and celebrate the stories they love. To ensure our celebration remains focused on literature, we kindly ask that children do not come dressed as superheroes.
World Book Day Events at School
Throughout the day, children will take part in a range of exciting activities designed to bring stories to life. Key events include:
Competitions
We have a selection of fun competitions running across the school to help children (and even parents!) get involved:

Keeping Costumes Simple, Creative and Fun
We fully understand that the current cost‑of‑living challenges may make costume planning more difficult. Please don’t feel any pressure to buy anything new — in fact, we’d love to see families get creative with items you already have at home!
Costumes can be:
- Homemade outfits using simple clothing
- Props, such as a basket for Little Red Riding Hood or a magnifying glass for a detective
- Clues, such as a bookmark, object or symbol connected to a favourite book
This keeps the focus on the story and ensures every child feels involved.
Ways to Get Involved at Home
In the days leading up to World Book Day, you might enjoy:
- Reading a favourite bedtime story together
- Creating a simple costume or prop as a family activity
- Sharing a book from your own childhood
- Visiting the library to discover something new
- Listening to free online stories
Small moments like these help children see reading as something joyful you do together.
