'One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.' - Frank Smith
Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other ways of life. Through our teaching of French, we aim to encourage pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. We lay the foundation for learning other languages whilst fostering a love of French and an enthusiasm for learning about other cultures.
At Concordia Academy, French is taught from Y3 onwards. Our curriculum focuses on three pillars of language learning: phonics, vocabulary and grammar. This is explicitly taught through sequential lessons and units that teach through repetition and revision to allow students to commit knowledge to their long-term memory. This ensures that their prior knowledge is embedded for future learning to be successful.
Students will develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills throughout their learning journey to ensure that they are proficient in all areas of the language by the time they leave Concordia Academy. The transferable skills they acquire will support them in their future MFL education, whether they are learning French or another language.
